40 Days of Prayer
   March 14, 2004

What do you see? (part five)

“And seeing the multitudes, He felt compassion for them,
because they were distressed and downcast
like sheep without a shepherd .“
(Matt 9:36)

When He saw them--He knew they were lost.
He knew they needed help in finding their way…and it broke His heart. They did NOT have a shepherd.

On this Lord’s Day, as we gather to worship, we know we have a Shepherd. There is great comfort and confidence in knowing that He is our leader. He is the Great Shepherd of the sheep. We are His People and the sheep of His pasture.

He knows us all by name. He cares for us individually. He knows our every need. We have a Shepherd!

Remember what Jesus said about our relationship in John 10? He is the Good Shepherd.

· He goes before His sheep and He leads them (Jn. 10:4).
· They follow Him because they know His voice (Jn. 10:4-5; 27).
· Through Him, we go in and out and find pasture (Jn. 10:9).
· He laid down His life for the sheep (Jn. 10:15, 17-18)

Because Jesus is our Shepherd, we have abundant life and a confident relationship with the living God.

But, that brings us back to the question: “Do you see what He sees?” Jesus saw them like sheep without a shepherd.

Father, as we worship You today, we thank You for providing for our every need through Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the Sheep. We find great comfort in knowing that You are leading us and we can hear Your voice and follow You.

We continue to ask You to open our eyes to see the needs of those who don’t have a Shepherd. Help us to see what You see.

We pray this prayer in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
